A Legacy Documented Through Research

The General Administration of the Latin Patriarchate Schools in Jordan welcomed Dr. Rania Mohammad Ali Al-Sawalhi and Dr. Abdul Hafez Mohammad Al-Hawarat, members of the ELIS Research Group at the University of Jordan, during a visit focused on their academic publication entitled “Leadership of Private Schools: Philosophy, Governance, and Impact.” The book sheds light on the history of private education in Jordan, highlighting the Latin Patriarchate Schools and their pioneering role in the educational landscape since their establishment. The publication explores the rich historical and educational heritage of the Latin Patriarchate Schools in Jordan, drawing on historical documents dating back to the Ottoman era, including correspondence exchanged by priests and records documenting the early stages of the schools’ establishment. It traces this legacy to the opening of the first Latin Patriarchate School in the city of Salt in 1869, marking the beginning of an educational journey spanning more than a century and a half. Throughout this period, the schools have continued to develop and expand across the Kingdom, contributing to the advancement of education, the dissemination of knowledge, and the promotion of educational and humanitarian values across generations. This academic documentation reflects the distinguished historical and educational standing of the Latin Patriarchate Schools in Jordan and their pioneering contribution to the development of education. As a long-established educational institution, the schools have successfully preserved the authenticity of their mission while embracing the advancements of the modern era. Throughout their history, they have remained committed to nurturing generations and serving the community, continuing to stand as a beacon of knowledge, education, and enduring values.
