History & Summary
Located in Ajloun Governorate, approximately 80 km north of Amman, Latin Patriarchate School – Wahadneh serves the village of Al-Wahadneh, a historic area believed to be the birthplace of Prophet Elijah (Mar Elias). The village is home to both Latin and Orthodox Christians living peacefully within a Muslim-majority community. The Latin parish in Wahadneh consists of about 100 families, and the school was established in 1963 within the church grounds. The Rosary Sisters have played a vital role in parish life, offering catechism and supporting religious activities. Latin Wahadneh was the first private school in the village, laying the foundation for future educational development. It began with around 50 Christian students, primarily from the Al-Badour and Al-Haddad families. The school was founded on a vision of academic excellence, faith formation, national loyalty, and nurturing student creativity and cooperation. The school’s early history is deeply tied to the efforts of dedicated priests. Father Ya’qoub Abu Saadeh opened the original school in modest conditions, focusing on basic Christian teachings and community bonding through prayer, meals, and outings. In 1961, Father Khalil Baddawi built three dedicated classrooms, even prioritizing the school before the church. Thanks to support from the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre in Bavaria, Germany, a modern kindergarten facility was constructed, complete with a protective canopy to shelter children in all seasons. During Father William Al-Ya’qoub’s service (1979–1988), the school expanded with the addition of a second floor. To this day, the school remains an active educational institution, committed to serving all children of the town with care and inclusivity.
