Latin Patriarchate School in Anjara

History & Summary

Founded in 1885 alongside the church in the picturesque town of Anjara, the Latin Patriarchate School has been a cornerstone of faith-based education for well over a century. Initially overseen by the parish priest and a lay teacher, the school operated with limited resources but a strong commitment to service. By 1922, development efforts gained momentum under collaborative leadership, and continued through to the end of World War II. Among the notable figures who supported the school during its early years were Father Angelo (of Italian nationality), and Father Abu Jouda (Maronite), both of whom worked with a small team to educate 50–70 local students. In the 1970s, a significant turning point came under the dedicated leadership of Father Youssef Al-Nuaimat, who took charge of both the parish and the school. At the time, the school only served students up to the fifth grade. Thanks to his vision and personal contributions, the school expanded to include grades up to the ninth, and added essential facilities such as a library, science lab, and home economics room. Father Yousef also recognized the importance of early education, leading to the establishment of a kindergarten section beneath the school activity hall. His three-decade-long commitment to academic development has left a lasting legacy in Anjara. Today, the school serves 535 students from Anjara and neighboring Kufranjah, supported by 22 dedicated teachers and staff who continue their professional development through universities and specialized training. Even as new schools have opened nearby, the Latin Patriarchate School of Anjara remains steadfast in its mission to deliver holistic, high-quality education rooted in Catholic values.
